Plaxtol Music Festival is community based and the 2010 concerts take place in Plaxtol Church, the gardens of a Plaxtol resident, plus two workshops at Plaxtol Primary School. A relaxed atmosphere, refreshments and wonderful music await you. Please come and join us!

Recital by Royal Harpist Claire Jones and percussionist Chris Marshall
7.30pm. Plaxtol Church

Claire Jones returns to Plaxtol, following her sell-out 2008 recital, this time in a duo recital with percussionist Chris Marshall. For Prince Charles’ 60th birthday in 2008, she performed a new piece, Goddess of The Woods, composed by Patrick Hawes, Classic FM's Composer in Residence. Chris Marshall plays regularly in West End shows, including We Will Rock You and Carousel as well as taking part in various recording sessions in London.
Claire and Chris will be giving a workshop at Plaxtol Primary School, on Friday 26th February, from 2pm.

King’s School, Canterbury - Crypt Choir
7.30pm. Plaxtol Church
The music tradition of the King’s School, Canterbury, set in the shadow of Canterbury Cathedral since 6th Century, is widely acknowledged. Its musical reputation was established in the 1950s under Edred Wright, one of the conductors at the Queen’s Coronation; The Crypt Choir, under the direction of Howard Ionascu provides music for weekly services in the Canterbury Cathedral, and also performs at outside venues including St John’s, Smith Square and Westminster Abbey. They tour extensively, to Europe, USA, New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong. Their concert comes after their return from a tour of South Africa and Swaziland.
Saturday 12th June 2010
David Rees-Williams Jazz Trio
5.00pm. Picnic Recital in the gardens of Schoolfield, by kind permission of Colin & Caroline Creed
The David Rees-Williams Trio specialise in programmes that unite the best of classical and jazz. They celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2008 with a new CD, Thinking Allowed, which has been played regularly on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM's the Jazz. The Trio perform in a number of concerts and festivals both in the UK and abroad and are regular guests at Pizza on the Park in London. David, a former student at the Royal College of Music, came to national attention with his arrangement of Purcell's aria When I Am Laid In Earth. This track was first played on Radio 3’s In Tune. The response was so overwhelming that the BBC invited the trio to record a commercial disc on their Late Junction label.
This recital will take place in the beautiful oak barn at Schoolfield. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy during the extended interval. A licensed bar will be provided. The gardens and Pimms Bar will be open from 4pm.
Coffee and brandy will be available after the concert.
Friday 10th September 2010
Tasmin Little, violin
7.30pm. Plaxtol Church
Violin workshop at Plaxtol Primary School from 2pm
We are very excited to have Tasmin Little to conclude the festival this year. A truly inspiring musician and known the world over, Tasmin has won many awards, including the prestigious 2008 Classic FM/Gramophone Award for Audience innovation for her recording The Naked Violin. Spurred on by the success of this project, Tasmin has devised a further CD and recital concept Partners in Time© with the pianist John Lenehan. Their concert features works by Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Bartok and Kreisler. Tasmin will perform on both the “Regent” Stradivarius of 1708, on loan from the Royal Academy of Music, and her own instrument, a 1757 Guadagnini.
Tasmin will be giving a workshop at Plaxtol School at 2pm on 10th September.
Facilities for Disabled People: please inform the office of any special requirements, when booking.
Toilets: there are no toilet facilities at Plaxtol Church. However, Plaxtol Memorial Hall will be open before and during each concert.
